Fall:

Fall:

Maple trees out back in the yard
with leaves turning golden-brown.
The sun is bright but the air is crisp
I pull my coat up tighter around.
A crow, with strong black wings outstretch
floats to the leafy covered ground.

Trails of smoke rise from the chimneys,
slowly trickling up into the sky.
Cows seem restless wanting me to hurry
for the sun is rising high.
The smell of hickory bacon cooking
fills the air making my taste buds sigh.

Looking across the grassy meadow
I see ducks flying over the pond so low.
My friend stops by to talk about the harvest
and ask if summer went by too slow.
I looked around at all that has happened
turning I smile and whisper no.

This is my favorite time of the year!!!! It's my crack! ;) I just wish it was like this all the time! For once Texas isn't hot as hell...too bad this cool weather only lasts for month or so...then it's back to swamp ass lol

All the things that make autumn special...you painted a wonderful scene in my mind, Ellis. I hope summer doesn't mind, but I never mind saying goodbye as autumn arrives.

I read your 'dream' 55 at G-Mans this morning and liked it a lot.

My 55 is a double whammy this week, two for the price of one. Of course, as always, you need to scroll down below my Friday's Show n Tell.

The link is HERE I'd love to have you stop by for a visit.

Hickory bacon?? Where? When? Now??!!

Gorgeous ode to autumn, Ellis! Not bad writing for a guy who dreams headless bodies and toeless feet and all that. :)

And where are the ducks going? Tennessee? Alabama?

Nice and cool here today.

"The smell of hickory bacon cooking
fills the air . . ."

Delicious. I'm definitely not a poet, but putting the smell of bacon in a poem is never a bad idea.

I like that last paragraph - looking around at all that has happened. I can just imagine what that must have been like to inspire the thought.

thanks for the beautiful comment you left in verse.

I enjoyed reading your poem(s) no worries about it not being the 55er, it was a pure 'autumn joy' to read, a part of my life long ago but not forgotten. Urban banality is calling so must get back to my work.

warm wishes,
Joanny

Sounds like you're wistful the summer has faded!
I like al the visuals well-described, such as the ducks.
- My MapleBeard is doing that slow turn now. Still pretty warm there, isin't it?
We're getting chilly here lately- Been in a caoat a few weeks.

I get rid of those posted timer errors by going back to edit post, then resaving as a draft- takes the post offline- then change the time option again to what you want for autopost again-
Piece of cake

word ver today: "sally war"

Yes it is a grand time. I hope it stays cool for you. It must be the old age. I don’t know why I had you out on the North East coast somewhere.

Talon:
Will thank you. For one that can take great pictures that was sweet of you to say. Yes less hope summer is not pissed and turns the heat up on you for a month or two.

Smoked bacon early in the morning filling the air. A slight ting of coolness with the sun peaking down into the valley over the pine trees. I can hear the cows still calling to us. If I could go back in time there is where you’d find me hurrying with the two pals of milk trying to keep up. I was six at the time.
