Innocence:

Her innocence was stolen
in the blink of an eye.
The love for her husband
would quickly die.
Week after week she lived
in turmoil and strife.
It was not long she started
worrying for her life.
After she found that deep
inside of him evil lurked.
She still tried her best
to make their marriage work.
Though she cried for her husband
that cold lonely night.
There was nothing left in her
but tears and fright.
Someday she will find
someone her love will steal.
As for now she knows
her heart will have to heal.

I hope she leaves...and fast.

Powerful, Ellis, and heartbreaking. Sometimes the ones we love have the most two-faced masks that they only take off behind closed doors.

Wow- very intense n descriptive about an abusive relationship! Amazing you can imagine being in such a situation.

I hear stories like that now and again - your poem captures it perfectly. I'm glad your cafe friend got out!

I second Talon's comment. May she get out, and do so double-quick. You write well about this all-too-common secret drama, Ellis!

Such a tradgedy. Would that it were fiction, but too often it's truth. Well done, Ellis. Kudos!

You are right about the men too, Ellis. When I worked in social services, an agency set up a support group for men.

Day Seventeen is up. Thanks for your ongoing comments and calculations.

Hope you are having a good evening...

I wrote this for a server one day at a cafe off the top of my head when she asked me to write something for her. She started crying and when I ask what was wrong she said her ex was like that. She had just left him a few days ago. Wearied.

I watch my mother in many. Yet this was not about me or mine.

Me to. No one should have to live like that.

Meredith:
Thanks. Glad your back and feeling better too.

Jamie:
I wish it was not true. Some men face the same problem. I have a friend that’s wife is quick to use her fist if things don’t go her way and yet he stays.

At least she's seeing the truth, the first step to getting out.

I am pleased that you wrote a poem about this very difficult subject that many woman and men experience.

Thanks, Ellis:~)
