Somehow:

I tried to reach out to you, even tho
my heart was filled with so much pain.
My tears flowed down both cheeks
flooding this soul with cold inner rain.
As you walked away, I stood there in fear
not saying what I wanted to say.
What will become of me
without you by my side day after day?
The years we shared were tossed in the wind
like leaves on that fall day.
You never looked back
you were lost in thoughts that would not stray.
Were you looking for a life
with new and greater things to see?
Had you thought about this day,
thought of it many times without me?
My heart sunk into a bottomless pit
as you vanished from my sight.
Turning that day I also did not look back,
somehow knowing, I to would be all right.

Hmm, what did you do?

Ah, a mother sending her child off to school, with a re-read I could see well. I thought a romance ended. Very well done, Ellis. We ARE alright (eventually) when the kiddoes go off to school.

The last line gave away what this was about.
Spoken from a protectors viewpoint.
Excellent poem

Love this, desk49! Especially the last part.

I hope you had a great Christmas, I tried to visit earlier but my mother's internet connection is so ancient that it would freeze whenever I tried logging onto blogger sites.

I'm staying at my friends for a night or two, so now I can catch up on what I've missed!

Wow, I had not guessed THAT to be the meaning. In the re-read, I smiled...it's so clever. :-)

The mirroring of not looking back is powerful in this poem.

The teacher had to invite me into class. I couldn't stop crying. He was fine. What a sissy I am!!! :-)
Must admit though, I was very young ...But, then, he was younger, of course.

Well done, Ellis. Nice bit of magic.

Jamie Dedes:
Your making my head swell like a over inflated beach ball.
Sometimes we have to let go so our kids can grow.
Thanks

I was writing because of the picture.
It is okay it seems a lot of people missed it.
One can only blame the writer not the readers.

No can’t say as I have heard of it.
My mother was more of the toss and burn mom.
