Rose:

Standing there in the
morning sun so fair.
Your fragrance fills
the cold morning air.
With dew drops dancing
across your petals so grand.
The smell of the rose,
is a gift from God to man.
The color as red as the blood
from your passionate heart.
There is no wonder it shows up
in so much of man's art.
Like on you, I find thorns to
protect the rose's delicate stem.
How do I get to your heart,
must the thorns be trimmed?

N I'll be so happy when no one runs over the rose bush this summer
(darn Nieghbors did- but gone now!) Used to love my mom's pink rose bush at the old house. Indeed a great Godly invention-
Interesting focus on getting thru the thorns

LOL sorry but the thorns of this rose is all the hang-ups trying to win her love.

Lovely, Ellis. Wonderful photo too. Altogether quite romantic. Makes me look forward to spring and summer as well. One tiny rose is popping on a bush nearby and the squirrels have been squabbling. We're in a warm spell, but the rain and cold will be back soon.

So which squirrel will get that rose?
Warm I was wounding if there was such a world.

No trimming of the thorns - just a careful dance around them.

Lovely, Ellis.

LOL Would that be an Irish two step.
Thanks

Sometimes the road to romance is thorny like the rose. Nice, Ellis.

Or itchy like the thistle

Now Ellis, you must know that the thistle is not itchy, but just like the rose a little scratchy. :)

You did a great job on this poem. I love roses, especially buttercream colored ones. Hubby used to buy me two dozen red roses every weekend. Then we got married ha-ha.

Don’t let me get close to a thistle RED, RED, RED and I wish I was dead.
Don’t you think it is time he buys you another dozen.

Frigginloon:
Orson Welles ?? will have to ask you about that one someday. LOL Thanks I think.

Yes, there is a warm world. No squirrel won the rose ... :-D

Orson Welles...Citizen Kane....Rosebud????? Ah never mind!

Orson Welles allegedly had an affair with Randolph Hearst's lover Marion Davies. When Welles made the film Citizen Kane (which was loosely based on Hearst) the main character whispers the name "rosebud" on his deathbed. That was the name that Welles affectionately used to describe Davies' private part in real life. Hearst just about blew a gasket and tried to get the movie destroyed when he found out.

I’m sure the squirrels would have liked it.

I cannot resist leaning over and smelling a rose in a garden or vase. It's probably one of my most favorite flowers.

Beautiful poem, Ellis.

Thank you they do seem to be most favorite.

A rose is a rose is a rose is a rose...true enough, but you have created a finer image than Stein.
