She looks through her eyes so bright
like dewdrops glistening on lilies white.
Seeing her lover standing there so strong
gives her the strength for this day so long.
Leaning on those arms that hold up her soul
she feels of warmth and womanly glow.
He seems further away; then she remembers
his smile not so bright, charming or tender.
She looks through his eyes and sees another.
The hurt, fear and betrayal makes her shudder.
Her heart grows cold and those eyes go dim.
What could she have ever seen in him?

Oh, this made me think of abuse...and it made me sad.
that reminds me of when you fall out of love and see all the crap you didn't see before. Love is not only blind, it sports beer goggles!
I know that look. Well captured, Ellis.
Ah, isn't new love so wondrous?
Oh my... love this, nice flow and message conveyed. great shot
Ellis,
You have captured the ugliness of betrayal beautifully. I think this is the best of your poems. (yet :) )
ohh, some days I wonder indeed. Sad that such betrayal has to be searched for. honesty is worth so much. nice write
This makes me think of the fickle sort of love, quickly fallen into, n but an instant to fall out in anger. U think the title is a bit misleading when considering the poems conclusion!
Your poem mirrored the beginning and the end of my marriage. Bittersweet, but mostly bitter. Happily, after a few years passed, some of the better memories returned. Not enough of them to make me forget the bad stuff though!
Dearest Ellis William Moore,
that line about those arms that hold up her soul is my favorite one.
I hadn't thought about abuse as in Talon's comment, but yes, I see it clearly now. I was thinking more like just a general cad.
Good one!
xo
This is my good friend's weekly match.com update. ha ha!
I love the line, "leaning on arms that hold up her soul".
You captured the sense of betrayal so accurately, so well felt. This is good, Ellis.

It is a shame anyone should know how betrayal feels. Then we would live in a perfect world
